Statistician/Data Analyst (Research Associate) – Maternity Leave Cover

Applications are sought from graduates with a suitable first degree and appropriate post-graduate qualification and / or experience to work on the Health Survey for England (HSE) at UCL. The applicant’s main role will be as a chapter author for the HSE 2008 report. This involves finding recent literature and policy documents, analysing the data, conducting statistical tests, and drafting the text. The 2008 survey focused on physical activity, including objective measures of activity and fitness. There may also be opportunities to work on secondary analyses for publication. Applicants must have knowledge and experience of medical statistics and of using SPSS and/or Stata to analyse data and interpret results. The core attributes required are the same for staff recruited at any level: academic excellence, research potential/ability, and an interest in and commitment to the research programme. A good first degree (1st, 2.1) or MSc in a numerate discipline, and excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, as well as experience of writing reports and publications are essential. Salary: UCL Grade 7, £31,620 – £38,250 per annum inclusive. The appointment is for maternity leave cover, from 1st June 2009 to 31st January 2010.
